How to stay motivated and graduate on time?

  • Do the class reading and be sure you understand the content. Don’t simply memorize.

  • Take good notes in class. Review your notes with a classmate or instructor and organize and edit them within 24 hours of the lecture.

  • Ask questions.

  • Find out what learning assistance centers or labs are available and use them.

  • Actively participate in class.

  • Develop a daily routine and be sure to schedule daily study time. Plan for at least two hours of work outside class for every hour spent in class.

  • Create a study area and remove distractions, such as the television and telephone.

  • Start a study group or find study buddies, and be sure these students are doing well in class.

  • Study the hardest subjects first.

  • Use the library on campus.

  • Steer clear of disciplinary actions

  • Communicate with your parents, let them know your needs and keep them involved.  This is truly important for older students.

  • Set a goal for yourself, not too high but make sure it's one you can meet.

Remember that in education, like other worthwhile pursuits, perseverance can be more important than intelligence.  Many times success is a matter of hanging in there after others have let go.

Have a happy and safe 2009-2010 school year !!
