7th Annual Back to School Extravaganza:

Sisters of Sophistication hosted its 7th Annual Back To School Extravaganza on Saturday August 08, 2009 at McKinley Middle Magnet School's Gymnasium.  BREC provided sponsorship.

Attendees were allowed to begin registration at 10:00, followed by a continental style breakfast.

The event officially opened with  Welcome by Andrell Ward followed by a prayer and National Anthem sung by State Representative Pat Smith.  Councilwoman Tara Wicker spoke to attendees and offered community support to her district.

In the afternoon guests were able to visit the many booths provided by such vendors as: Boytown LA, Dept of Juvenile Services, Office of Community Services, Crimestoppers, Elite Choice Realty & Travel, LaChip, EBR Clerk of Court to name a few.

We enjoyed performances by Gospel Rap Artist and Performer ZO, as well as Moni - Jai, also dance routines by Diversity Dance Production, Pretty N Pink, Praize Em, Annointed 2 Dance,
Zinshin Ki-Do Karate Club and many more.  Free haricuts were provided by Justin Rendell.  Throughout the day door prizes were given away, a few of them included a free vacation  provided by Elite Choice Realy & Travel, discounted Karate classes by Zinchin Ki-Do, Sling bags, school supply filled book bags, dental supplies, provided by Sisters of Sophistication.  EBR Clerk of Court was on hand to provide ID's to children in attendance as part of the Ident-A-Kid Program.

After everyone enjoyed lunch the children in attendance were given book bags (provided by Councilwoman Tara Wicker and State Representative Pat Smith) as well as a host of school supplies supplied by Sisters of Sophistication to start the school year.
We provided school supplies to more than 400 children this year and look forward to servicing the needs of our community next year.

WHY DO WE LIKE TO THINK OF OURSELVES AS SOS ?............

***Yes, SOS is the initials for Sisters of Sophistication..............But it is also the commonly used description for the International Morse code distress signal.

We'd like you to think of SOS when you are in distress......

Sisters of Sophistication, Inc.  uses the life preserver as its symbol because it represents a symbol of safety, hope and rescue.  The same is true for S.O.S.'s call letters.
